Prayer and reflection
What Is a Siddur?
Navigate a Jewish prayer book by service, occasion and community custom.
A siddur is a Jewish prayer book containing prayers organized for different occasions. Weekday, Shabbat and festival sections can differ, and editions follow particular nusach. Translation, commentary and page numbering also vary between books.
Before using a prayer text, check the service and day instead of choosing the first familiar heading. The app contains selected prayers and complete Kiddush and Havdalah texts; it should not be mistaken for a fully licensed complete daily Chabad siddur. Ask the community for the appropriate printed edition.
A place to begin
- Identify the nusach and contents of the edition.
- Find the correct service and occasion.
- Use a complete suitable printed siddur for Shabbat prayer.
Editorial introduction based on the linked Chabad.org resource; not a personal halachic ruling or a rabbi-reviewed article. Ask a qualified rabbi about practical observance. Prepare printed learning before Shabbat; device use is not permitted simply because a reading is saved.
