Shabbat learning
Why Learn Torah on Shabbat?
Make Torah study part of Shabbat’s holiness while leaving room for rest and shared meals.
Shabbat creates an opportunity to step back from weekday demands and devote attention to Torah. Learning can give depth to prayer and meals, connecting the day’s rest with reflection on G-d’s teachings rather than treating rest and study as opposites.
Choose an amount of learning that fits your circumstances and guidance. A printed Chumash, commentary or short Chassidic teaching can support a quiet session or a conversation at the table. Plan before Shabbat; this website is a preparation tool, not an invitation to use a device on Shabbat.
A place to begin
- Select an appropriate printed passage before Friday evening.
- Set aside a calm time that does not crowd out rest or family.
- Share a text-grounded question rather than an unsupported slogan.
Editorial introduction based on the linked Chabad.org resource; not a personal halachic ruling or a rabbi-reviewed article. Ask a qualified rabbi about practical observance. Prepare printed learning before Shabbat; device use is not permitted simply because a reading is saved.
